Firstly, I apologise for mentioning Christmas before advent starts. However, as I am someone who is constantly bugged by the minutiae of life, there is one which has always got me:

Which is more correct:

1) "Happy Christmas" or,
2) "Merry Christmas"?

I prefer 2, as it means you can finish it with "and a happy new year!". Which do you prefer?

Another one. Being one who watches a lot of imported TV programmes from the US, I have noticed a strange difference between English and the American-English dialects:

1) "Happy new year" (English)
2) "Haaaaaaaaaa-p Nooyurr" (American English)

I prefer "Bah Humbug!".

Christmas is a time for spending money you don't have, on people you don't like on presents they don't want, while eating and drinking yourself silly, breathing in everyone's flatulence and having arguments.

Happy Winter Solstice!

So you're saying there's an upside to it ;)

I wouldn't start with that winter solstice/yule stuff... I tried greeting people with "A glorious sow-hain to you" on the 31st of October AND the 1st of November (hedging my bets!) but none of them had a clue. And THAT is most Pagans' new year
