My mother has early stages of alsimizers and I have been called to visit at silly hours when nothing really wrong.

Being able to see the living room would in most cases allow me to calm her down without a visit and she is willing for me to install them.

However I am no IT expert and I don't want all people to be able to access the camera and not sure what is required so I can assess but not some one trolling the internet.

This seems to fit the bill but the write ups are not too good.

I don't need or want very good pictures just the ability to see what is going on.

Comments please.

Sorry to hear about your mum. We had the calls at 3am almost every night for about a year, and emergency dashes to sort things out, until she finally had to go into care, so I do know where you are coming from.

I think the main problem is that people do not change the default code like dumb celebrities who complain about the press intrusion when all they had to do was set the phone up securely

Found a couple of bits of info on the camera in the second one it makes the point about changing the default code.

Hope it helps.

You'll need to check if it has the ability to update a server with it's WAN (internet) IP address so if your mothers internet doesn't have a fixed IP address then it may lose connection if the router is rebooted etc.

Tried one of those, very poor performance so sent it back.

If it comes with a default password - change it on day 1.

There was a video system that sent slow frame rate images over the telephone line while the conversation was in progress. I cannot recall the details other than it could work over a dialled up phone call with about 2 frames a second. Very secure and enough images per second to be able to know the general state of affairs.

While it worked over the old copper wire trunks between exchanges it may not work through the modern phone system due to the restricted frequency band in the digital transmission of calls from line to line and exchange to exchange.

It may be worth looking for it.
