I've had a new boiler installed (Vaillant ecoTec Plus 625 System boiler) to replace a 22 year old Alpha SY24 (non-condensing) that was noisy and costly. Boiler seems nice and quiet. However, the guy fitting it (from a recommended local company) first of all assumed that it was like all the other boilers he deals with and the flow was on the left, and the return on the right. Bad assumption, as the Alpha had them the other way around.
I figured it out after wondering why the return from the cylinder was getting hotter than the flow, and the water wasn't getting hot.
He came back today (never apologised for screwing it up the first time) to basically cross the pipes over in the garage roof space above the boiler.
Refilled the system, but there's some air in there definitely. Okay - it will work it's way around.
However - whilst getting all the radiators to get hot one of the things he did was fiddle with the manual air release valve on the flow into the cylinder (see the picture). It hasn't been touched since we moved in 14 years ago. As a result, it's weeping drops of water. It's definitely hand tight, so I presume it's just old age.
At this point I'm a bit loathe to have them back again. I know it will cost more money to get someone else in, but I don't get a good vibe, and the company owner will undoubtedly just send the same guy back again. He'll turn up late again and rush it.
After this ramble, my questions are: will fixing it involve draining the system again, and should I use someone who's Vaillant registered? The reason for the second question is that the process of refiling seemed to involve two stages, to initially fill and then let the Vaillant purge air, and then complete filling.
