On my way back from West London this afternoon, I changed trains at Barking. To get from one platform to another (or to leave the station), you have to go up some steps but which ones? It looks like some other bloke is confused too. Look at the signs as well as the wording on the steps.

Personally, I think it's pretty obvious that you need to go up the green stairs.

The red stairs are for people at the top who are coming down the stairs hence the no entry sign at ground level.

However, I do agree that the wording on the steps themselves is completely wrong/misleading.

The green steps are going in the same direction as the big WAY OUT arrow. Therefore, they should say exit on them IMHO.

Here's an older photo. Are there turnstiles or barriers at the top of the stairs. What happens if you take the wrong stairs.

That picture makes sense. Only barriers are to get out of the station. There’s an interconnecting walkway that connects all the platforms on the station. On the picture I took, the signs are correct, the colours on the steps are correct, just the wording on the steps is all wrong. Not even needed.

Exactly. I'm wondering why they bothered. I don't even know why they need the signs. With stairs that wide, people used to walk up and down the same flight. It must be health and safety.

Are you sure that's not the Richie Rich Sunak UK/NI/EU border idea?

wrong choice off words up and down are the only applicable simple words
any other word can be confused as the journey answer is the opposite to what they want with their use off stairs direction instructions

If you can't work out the Green/Go-Red/Stop concept then maybe driving isn't for you, either.
