Rural India - different gravy. Unimaginable poverty, where things as simple as a toilet are considered a luxury. It would be no good giving the women something like a golf club for protection because they'd sell it.

A token gesture. What goes on in the backwaters of India's poor is beyond our imagination. And it is on a huge scale.
There has to be poor people in the world I guess.

Yes it is a token gesture - but these things never happen overnight. It takes years and a shift in attitudes with each generation for things to improve. So am pleased, highlighting it again and again and the message will get through eventually.
Is that why they are so good at cricket?
Reported and recorded crime, I'd guess....this abuse will have been going on since time immemorial.
