What are these clips called

I think it's probably an Americanism - in the same way that our gudgeon pins become their wrist pins.

Sometimes known as beta pins (Greek alphabet, ß) as the shape is more similar to ß than R in my opinion.

I also believe the original, pictured, may have been 'altered' unless it is a special made in the thousands for a manufacturer back in the day when that sort of thing was common practice.
 
I call them R pins, but the correct term - I believe - is a Hair Pin.

Never heard them called that before.

Always known them as r clips and/or retaining pin clips


I know they're not but, when I first saw the pic, it reminded me of a "hair grip".
