What are your plans for your house in 2023?

Not quite the house, but there's an ash tree in the garden that has to go in the next few weeks before it starts sprouting green stuff everywhere, together with an oversized "bush" (more like a tree TBH) which is covered in girt great thorns and which I refer to as "the Triffid". I hate gardening

We also need a new kitchen (but I've been saying that for more than 5 years, so it might be next year!)

New windows at the front and decorate main bedroom. Already spayed stairs case which was despite. Looked terrible as not been done in 10 years with what I consider poor paint plus brush finish. I'm getting complaints the hand rail is slippy now. Ha.

Can't see windows happening with the slowdown in work I seem to be facing and cost of living rising.
See how spring goes I guess.
Also want to sort some holes in brickwork.
Paint fence we put in last year.
Treat the roof tiles for moss.
That will do for this year.

We are having a solid insulated roof put on the conservatory (the existing glass roof is well past its best), all the outside woodwork is being repainted and some of the double glazed window panes need replacing as they are leaking. I'm also redecorating both lounges, the conservatory, and two bedrooms.

Oh, there is huge difference!

There was a lot of tree planting around here in the 1870s [1] so there is a TPO on hundreds of gardens. I applied for permission to give the copper beech a small trim and cut back some of the laurel that is opposite it.

Permission was given for the copper beech but nothing was said about the laurel, so I called the council and asked, and was told that the laurel which is clearly taller than the house is (as far as the relevant act is concerned) a bush not a tree so no permission is needed.

1. Very in vogue back then. My college is that vintage and has an arboretum that (when I was there) had examples of every native species.

Well this one is about 20 years old. The ash is a lot younger. Is triffid an invasive species, I wonder...

Prep the stairs to paint (there's around 9 layers of paint and more runs than a cricket match).

Then carpet runner and can finally relax.
Last remaining eyesore in the house.

Moved to a bungalow in Dec , needed nothing doing to it , so wife decided needs everything doing to it, not sure it’s my idea of a relaxing retirement.
Better than wasting away in front of the TV all day.
I retired but got bored within a fortnight so got a P/T job at Centre Parcs as a hot tub engineer. Worked through autumn/winter in the foul weather and was looking forward to the spring and summer till Covid arrived. Put on furlough, on 100% wages which was good, but again, got bored very quickly. Out of the blue I got a phone call about a job I had applied for closer to home a while back, so I accepted their offer and left CP.
Couldn't be happier. Work 7.30 to 11.30 5 mornings a week and then the rest of the day is mine to potter around the garden, play in my workshop or just chill out in the spa.

I’ve just been told that this year we will be decorating the bedrooms, new carpets in 3 bedrooms and H/S/L plus a freshen up in the lounge and bathroom. Next year, a whole new kitchen. :(
