There are a couple of doors in my house that are offensively ugly. Unfortuately they are not a 'standard' size so I can't simply replace them. They look like they are a made of a simple rectangle of varnished plywood, does anyone have a suggestion as to how I might improve their appeal? Is painting an option?

I don't know what's available in Japan, over we have Door Panel Moulding Kit or a complete hardboard door skin cover then paint it to your choice. Most of them now available in a strong self-adhesive tape therefore no need for gluing

Masona,

Thanks very much for answering this question. I will be in the UK next month so will try to pick one up - do you know if they can be cut to shape as my doors are not a standard size (in fact they are shorter than me!).

You also answered my bath tub question (thanks), I'll pick up some of the product you recommended at the same time.

Regards, Martin

Normally they are over-sized for you to cut down depending where the moulding shape is. The most popular are the moulding beading kit and do you own design and a good quality paint. There also nothing to stop you buying the timber beading of your choice, will be cheaper this way.
