Hello All,

I’m after a bit of advice. I’m in the process of doing my first full house renovation. The kitchen has no gas appliances and is just an empty room. I want to have gas hobs and combi installed. To minimise the cost of the gas safe engineer, what can I do to get things ready?

As I understand it and I’m more than happy to be correctly, I can install the hobs and hang the boiler, hook up all the CH feeds etc, I just can’t run and connect the gas main to both.

Is it best to run conduit in the walls to where the gas feeds have to go to, to allow a gas line to be run a later date?

Please excuse ignorance and thank you in advance.

Best thing is to plan the kitchen, then get a gassafe reg plumber to first fix the gas pipes for the hob and combi. Can't see how you could install the hob etc without having the pipe run to it first. (unless your prepared to take the kitchen units out again) The plumber may well want to install the hob himself but will be happy for you to prepare the cutout in the worktop etc.
As for the combi boiler, he may well want to do all of the installation himself (water, central heating etc) He will certainly want to run gas connections to it himself. Depending upon the combi's gas needs and distance and run from meter, he'll be the one that knows what size supply pipe to use.

As a minimum i would expect to hang boiler (you can fix the wall jig), flue it gas it and commission it.

But i would not take any reponsibility for any of the wet work you had done.

I would suggest you try to involve the rgi as early as poss and discuss what you intend to do and he can the chip in with advice. Be warned tho not all will be interested.

sorry, that's what I meant. I've just doing the first fix wiring atm, want to get the first fix gas in before I render the walls etc. Just needed to know if I can conduit it and run the gas line at a later date

That's what i've done with the electrics, I've done the first fix and the sparky has overseen it all.

I'll get in touch with a gas safe.

(On another note, how much should I expect to be charged for boiler installation, flue it gas it and commission it. Including first first fix for the boiler and hobs gas line)

Thanks

James

You still need the gas pipe running in for your gas hob before you fit the kitchen. (gas pipe for combi will be run at the same time) If you don't you run the risk of a plumber saying it's now too awkward to do. Plan ahead, plan ahead and plan some more. ;) ;) ;)
