Hi, the floor in our new conservatory is now dry. We need to retain access to a sealed manhole and have chose to have carpet so it can be taken up easily if there are drainage problems and it will also be a bit warmer underfoot.

I've used Cloud9 foam underlay before and really like the stuff. They do a 10mm Contract underlay with a silver 'reflective' layer. Is this the kind of underlay we should use? If not then which do you recommend?

Also, can I lay this straight on to the floor or will it need to rest on some other type of protective layer.

Thanks

if you've not got kids then carpet will be ok.

i like carpet but i've gradually moved it all upstairs and replaced with tiles and laminate.

appreciate the thought process on the need for access but i would still put laminate down.

as for carpet underlay then i don't see anything special being needed assuming the base has a dpm. i generally like felt underlay as opposed to the sort of curvy rubber type.

i think for an all belt and braces approach then putting a lightweight vapour barrier down 1st would be ok and not too pricey.
