doing a little costing exercise at the mo, re building a timber garage, stumbling block is the roof, whats the best?(read easiest) route to go,I appreciate flat roofs have limited life expectancy but guess this would be easier and within my realms of capability which is quite limited, just really want a water tight, functional roof, have seen those roofing sheets in Wickes and the like, are they any good? would I be able to insulate underneath?
Sorry for so many questions guys any advice appreciated

yes, for a diy'er, a flat roof is the least difficult.

why do you want to insulate a garage?

deck out with nothing less than o.s.b., but ply would be better. do not use chipboard because it is shoite.

thanks noseall,insulation....am trying to keep it warmish and hopefully minimise condensation, gonna install some slimline panel heaters and vent it properly(?) etc plus it's a bit more than a garage I spend a lot of time out there in the winter and the ole bloods a bit thin these days

any form of insulation is going to help. generally the more money you spend on insulation the better insulated it will be.

but a big metal door exposed to the outdoors is always going to attract condensation, no matter how good the insulation. just be sure to vent as well as insulate. ;)

thanks again noseall, yeah I wondered about the door thing especially as there will be either 2 singles or 1 double, thats a lot of steel to draw out the moisture, need it secure though, do you reckon I'd be better to go for a timber(cedar)door or can I do something with a metal up & over to insulate that? trouble is all the door mechanism I guess?

I suppose you could use 25mm or 50mm polythene insulation sheet glue to the door,

Or expanding foam spray(?), might be messy though.

Wooden door will be warmer though.
