I have been given a good price from British Gas.
I have repaired oil burners many times, working in the Falklands, but no one was worried about efficiency, as long as it worked and fumes did not kill anyone, it was OK, tended to use smaller than recommended jets to burnt clean, but had no meters to set it up, we were after all electricians not heating engineers. So I want to get it set up right, not worth saving a few quid on a service then pay it out on oil.
So is it worth using a national firm, or better to look for local, looking at the state of the central heating when I arrived at this house, not the people whose sticker is on the boiler, so looking for someone new.
Not sure about "keep track of your energy usage" I look in the tank and if below the bracing bar halfway down, I order more oil. The sight pipe is useless, so can only really know what I use a year, Nest produces a graph, but it says when it called for heat, not when the boiler ran, so rather useless.
I know the old guy would try to adjust pressures to get the burn spot on, and if failed would change jets, this was the main job, to get boiler running efficacy. He would also of course change or clean out filters and water traps, but the guy has moved, so I need someone new.In this month’s newsletter, we’re looking at ways to be more energy efficient in the warm weather, how to keep track of your energy usage and a boiler service offer for just £49. Enjoy!
