Hello,

I recently moved into a new house. There is a tv arial on the chimbley, and from it comes a long wire. Handy for hooking up a tv however the cable is not coaxial...

Anyone know what this is and what I need to do to extract a tv signal from it? It's 8 core.

Cheers

That's an ethernet network cable, possibly Cat5. Are you sure it goes to the aerial? It isn't suited at all for that sort of signal.

Unless someone has taken a fair bit of effort to remove the effects of the twists, it looks more like (4 pair) phone cable.
But either way, it's not the right stuff for an aerial. Is it possible that you've not actually followed the right cable - can be hard from a distance, especially if 2 or more run close together.

It may have been used to provide 12 volt power to a mast head amplifier. Is there a box fitted close to the aerial ?

Bearing in mind that arial is a typeface perhaps it is a cable to a printer.
