What is this? From a Washing Machine.

So whilst I had to fix a leaky feed hose for the washing machine, I decided to get it onto some of those track runners, afterwards I noticed this appear on the floor. I'm assuming its from the W/M, the machine has been making a bit of a banging noise lately on the wash cycle but as it's ancient and was second hand when we bought it I resided to just getting a new one when it eventually died but so far it refuses to die (Indesit IWC81481). What is it and what does it do? Some kind of strut to stop it knocking I guess!

It's half of one of the lower drum supports, and not only has it completely failed, it's also been ripped off of the frame so there is now no way of fixing a new one.
