plumber used some sort of white paste around his fittings (compression fittings) isolating valves etc - he seemed to put a brush in and put some around the olive any suggestions as to what he used please

i have never done this when fitting the above on to 15mm :)

I dont know what he was using.

But no jointing paste is required for new fittings.

Even with old/damaged fittings a couple of turns of PTFE tape on the olive is all that is required.

^^ it wasnt that it was more a tube and like a tipex type pen that he was applying it with?!!

Bullsh*t.

Why slag off another plumbers methods? If it works for him who's to say it's wrong or right.

It will have been a jointing compund like this one:

I use it on new or old, just for that extra peace of mind :) - although I know it is not a must.

This is really not so , jointing compound should be used on all compression fittings ESPECIALLY those nasty hard brass olives (throw in the scrap bag)......whenever i see PTFE used on a compression fitting my first thought is DIYer on the loose.

I use Plumba (never let me down) some use LSX niether are white but as my old boss used to say Belt and Braces, and i reckon he's even more experienced than Agile is, he did 60 years in the trade,
