We're probably a tad unromantic in our house and definately don't do "hinting". We just ask "what do you want for crimbo/birthday?" and that's quite often followed by "are you going to get it? -- "Yeah" --"Ok then I'll give you the money later"
As said not romantic or anything but at least there aren't any bad surprises.

Men only say that when they can't be arsed buying something back for the person they are talking to......well that's what it means when I say it anyway.

can remember buying my Dad a Brut soap on a rope years ago ...!

I once got a double sided, brown & white soap on a rope engraved with the words "face" on one side & "asre" on the other; I leave you to imagine which was which!

No.

What he is saying is 'i can't be bothered to trawl through me wardrobe or me chest of drawers to see what new things i need.

"you put everything away dear, you choose something for me" would be a better answer.

However, if a bloke has a hobby or interest or is 'into' something, then he will like nothing more than a related gift.
