Hi all,

Builder has set padstones tight up under the steel, it's been 3-4 days and where it's dried out the padstone now has a gap between the steel and the pad of about 1mm or so, what's the best mix to be using to get this set back right without it dropping.

Thanks

Is it right though to stick a steel plate under? (I know its allowed) I thought that this should be packed with slate underneath the pad and effectively it could sit on the pad right away with the slate taking the bearing.

But genuine question what type of mix should this be?

You will struggle to get anything, liquid or otherwise into a 1mm gap.

How has the padstone dropped 1mm but the beam stayed up?

Oh, well that's a good sign.

It may be best to take the padstone out, and wedge it up tight with some slate then re-bed it on some 2:1 mortar which won't shrink.
