But the scammers don't just gather information from one site. People may be on different sites but with the same user name, especially if they use their real or part of their real, name. They then use algorithms to sift and collate the data to build up a false/fake profile.
At the moment their is a 'friend request' doing the rounds on FB to a lot of people, (blokes and girls), who have military backgrounds. The 'problem' is, the name of the guy making the request is/was well known when he was alive but sadly passed on a couple of years ago. He had never registered on FB under any name at any time but did frequent military forums.
