Go to this link:

http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?productid=symhome&langid=ie&venid=sym

Which should take you to a free security check on Symantec's website (Norton). You can do a free virus check and a free security check.

Personally, I run AVG Free anti-virus, Outpost Firewall, Spybot Search and Destroy and there is the firewall built into my router. My computer is pretty secure (I think). When I run spyware, I only get one or two tracking cookies.

If you cannot get to any of the links then use

File Hippo and look at their home page for what you want:
http://www.filehippo.com/

Or Majorgeeks
http://www.majorgeeks.com/

The ones marked ## are the ones that I use.
You should check for updates regularly, using the link that is on the front page of each program when you open it.
Run a scan about once per week but only run one at a time.
