Hi,
I am having trouble finding a builder/roofer to repair a chimney. Top two courses need replacement and some pointing needed around the base.
The big companies i have tried are not interested in small jobs.
I have in the past tried trusted trader but with poor results (either no replies or not reputable).
Has anyone a favorite site for searching ?

Just post and see who shows an interest.
Look them up online and only shortlist when you're happy.
If you don't like the look of them don't shortlist.

Call me old fashioned but I expect the site to do the work, otherwise it's no better than facebook marketplace!

I think if you post a question regarding finding a trade on a forum then you've hit the last resort.
Trust me when I say I hate every one of the marketing sites but that's how the world has become.
You find a trade by asking around or using the internet.
You get a written estimate with insurance details ect that must also come with T&C's.
You agree to work in writing.
You then start the journey of trust starting at zero, then maybe in a few years after using that company you may hit a 10 out of 10.
You want two guarantees. Death and taxes are the only ones I know.

Just trying to be helpful.
Use whatever resource is available with a buyer beware attitude.
Most tradesmen are family people just trying to make a living and aren't out to con anyone.
If you think otherwise you will get nowhere.
Good luck in your quest

Just trying to find out if anyone has found any better sites than I have tried.
As I said the ones I have found so far are not good but it seems there are no other suggestions.
Yes I do the relentless internet trawl periodically when I summon enough enthusiasm to be disappointed again!
Today's crop included, sorry out of our area, we only do commercial, sorry we only do extensions, to busy try again in 6 months!
I will get there in the end..........

If and when you do find a reliable, skilled tradesman, hang on to him. I found myself a local roofer, decades ago, simply by seeing him and his van, often around the area. One day I needed his help, so I sought him out. He's good, he's quick, he's experienced, obliging, and he's always relatively cheap.
