I've put in a external double socket in the garden and ran the wire to the consumer unit. Whats size mcb should be used and should it be on the rcd side or not?

Agree this should be on the RCD side of the consumer unit but size of MCB depends on size of cable you have used and length of run, remembering this is notifiable works.

I managed to get some 10mm swa for free. Its about 10m in length.

10mm2, did all the cores fit in the terminal on the socket outlet?

as i say it was free. so based on the cable and length, what size mcb should be used?

32A MCB would be fine assuming it's not had a drastic haircut!
I would personally use a 20A MCB though.

Drastic haircut???

If I win the lottery at least I'll have power down there for the helipad landing lights. :)

How have you terminated the SWA?

Have you earthed the armour?

Although I'm sure you've done this work correctly I would ask you to consider the real dangers of bodging external electrical services.

I've put glands at either end and made sure the strands are cut correctly , opened out and the olive over it to secure in place.Just the 3 wires inside the outside socket. Same at cu end.

So in other words you have not earthed the armour....?

What colours did you use for each conductor?

Also, what route does the cable take outside, and where/how is it supported/fixed?

Yes it is earthed to the tag on the gland. The colours weren't the standard ones so I've got some heat shrink for it. The cable goes under ground and comes out in a wall. (The garden steps down) I laid it when we started the kitchen extension while I had the chance.
