I'm renovating my farmhouse and converting 2 farm buildings for my family. We want to connect to the mains water supply (spring fed currently) and I want to know the size of pipe required. I have to lay at least 700m before the last few meters connect to the houses. Issue is that if it's 63mm or above then I need an approved contractor which will cost a fortune. Would a 50mm do and then 25mm or 32mm for the last stretch. Or could I run 3 lots of 32mm pipes for the full 700m or so?

Thanks

I would say you will need a pro to design what is required. The example at http://www.arca53.dsl.pipex.com/index_files/mwpipe.htm shows 28mm copper/32mm poly is required for a distance of 50m. As you are going 700mm (½ mile nearly!) you will no doubt need a large diameter pipe installed. Won't be cheap either!
