I need one that's fast enough to view/edit HD video.
Are they all fast enough for that now, or do I need to look for something in particular?
Macs are traditional for that sort of thing, and quite nice, but apart from the price, can you still Windows apps on them?

don't know the answers to the question but i would avoid HP had 3 fail after a few years and have been out lived by my Toshiba sattellite

To run windows apps on a mac you need both an emulator (like bootcamp or parallels) which is not too expensive and a copy of windows, which is expensive. So you need to work out if there is windows only software which you really need. Macs do come with good video editing software (iDVD) though. I recently bought a Mac Airbook and would strongly recommend them.

Neither Bootcamp nor Parallels is an emulator. You may want to look up the appropriate terms and definitions before giving advice.

Congratulations, may I offer you this super-slim pad of paper? It's only £9.99 (normal A4 pad £2.99).

Notebooks are not normally that suitable for editing video. Decent software for video editing will use CUDA for video conversion to gain a lot of speed but this requires a good graphics card which you don't get unless you have a gaming laptop.
Similarly you need a fast hard disk. Some can take two drives which you can stripe or you can swap them for a large SSD but all this adds a lot of extra cost and you are paying a large premium for the notebooks size.

The new laptops all are have the same configurations nowadays the laptops are coming with the 64 bits and with the higher configuration of i7 processor and the windows7 so better to buy the all new one but the rate is differ from one to another laptops.Cegonsoft
