what sort of washers for oil

whats the best washer to replace a leaking connection on an oil tank, rubber or nylon. Do the degrade?. Is it best to use a solid setting oil sealant or just PTFE? on the threads?

also can you join 3/8 pipe to 10mm connections, do you use different olives ?.

What type of tank?Metal/Plastic.
Pipes are easily joined using flared fittings.

I use ptfe.

to join imperial to metric, flare the pipe .

plastic tank with brass 1" BSP to aluminium threaded extension pipe with brass nut to tighten up (Atkinson).
