The cold water in the kitchen sink has stopped.
The hot water is working - but I think also going.
See further below for a pic.

I took the top part off. Someone told me that I need to replace the part in the picture on the right.
What is the part called?
Will it be universal or do I need to get the exact part and make?

EDIT:

- How do I take the part off? Do I need some sort of special spanner?
- I see cartridge parts for sale - the part I need is a lever and not a twist part and has a square head - I haven't seen anything with a square head?

Thanks.

1. The hemispherical dome part below the square shank should unscrew.
2. With the dome off, you may well find the square shank fits over a splined circular shank and can be easily removed. It should also reveal the hexagon on the cartridge for removing it.
3. You will need to get a match for the existing cartridge. If you know the make and model it should be fairly easy unless it is a "shed" special in which case you probably won't be able to get spares.
4. If you don't know the make and model, try one of the on-line suppliers like showerdoc.
5. There are some cartridges with square operating shanks, but usually monobloc mixers.
6. If the dome doesn't want to come off, try pouring a kettle full of very hot (not boiling) water over it. Grip it with a rubber glove.

Thanks for the super helpful reply.

The make is Artiflo. Below that is MSG.
I looked this up, not finding results.
Is there anywhere I can look online?
I thought it was a case of not getting the right part

Will come off by hand?
I'll give it a go.

And it's probably this type of cartridge you need - sadly I can't find a supplier but it might be worth trying ebay or the like

Thanks for the replies.
I can't get the dome off. Someone told me to get a strap wrench.

Those cartridges... I've seen on ebay.

Question: the tap itself is very very stiff. Before we could move left and right. Now we can't. Any advice on that?
Thanks.

@NotSoNewboy - yes... ATRIFLO :)

Another case of an obscure brand that is hard to get parts for!
You'll need to get the shroud off and you could try painting it with killrock gel if limescale is an issue in your local... Yes, maybe one of those rubber strap wrenches will help too.
Perhaps try getting the hot one dismantled which will show you how it is configured, if it comes off easier and you can service that at the same time.
You will need to find a cartridge that is compatible with that brand, else its going to be new tap time.
