I set out and started prep work to begin plastering a wall (which I hope to be doing tomorrow), but I found a patch where i found the plaster wasn't actually attached to the wall (you can see it just below the plug socket in the picture below). So I set away with my scraper and it just fell out easily enough, but I don't get it, there is a mesh behind it, then behind the mesh is what looks and feels like cardboard?
This little box goes above the stairs (on the other side). Can I just re-plaster over it again (i fear it won't stick again, and do the same as what the previous person did - as it looked as if it had been re-plastered again within the last few years).
Or should I cut it out and put a patch of plasterboard there?
I'm trying to dig my flashlight out and see whats behind there (I hope its not directly through to the stairs - as the stairs has some cheap artex boards sloped up to stop the heat just going to the top of the stairs)
This is an old house (1930's isn) - hair and lime rendered walls and all that.
Tapping to the left and right of it, it seems to be brick, just that patch is not. Not sure what that is all about.
In fact, would i need to render first then plaster once dry?
