I`ve been getting a damp patch inside my front door on the wall, on closer inspection I discovered a hole in the mortar between the brickwork on the outside of the door frame, i suspect I`m getting water ingress through the hole. i can stick a small screwdriver in the hole and it appears to go right into the cavity. Should it be just a straight forward pointing job and a reseal of the doorframe? I was thinking of trying to fill much of the hole with expanding foam and then raking a bit out to allow me to have a base to point to, would that be OK? Picture below

That hole is tiny and no need for expanding foam

Some silicone or a teaspoon of mortar will do it

So a good blob of mortar would be ok in there then? Should I use silicone to seal the inside of the door frame as well, or will builders caulk suffice?
