What to do with this? (Loft)

I am removing old insulation in my loft and I’ve uncovered this big void in the floor which I have established is where the old water heater was before the heating system was changed to combi

Would it be okay to just fill the complete hole with some current (old insulation), bring it up to below the joists then use new insulation between and over the joists? Cheers

...or staple some chicken wire between the rafters, to support the new insulation.

That's where you hide the CCTV recorder, the safe and the neighbours annoying children :)
