What to this paint garage door with?

So my garage door is starting to split and peel after about 5 years. I have no idea what it was originally treated with - see photo - it looks like outdoor varnish to me. I assume that I need to sand & revarnish.

I could really do with some advice as to what was originally used and what colour it was, so that I can redo it?

Can't i'm afraid offer you any advice as to what the original coating is, just lightly sand using around 400 grit wet and re-varnish make sure you choose an outdoor stain/varnish and not polyurethane.

One thing I forgot to mention and that is when sanding always sand in the direction of the grain and never against it.
