Hi Guys,

I'm currently thinking about fitting a new ceiling over the current one (neighbour noise from upstairs and I'm trying to work out my current ceiling construction. The house was built around 1903 I believe. I've had trouble locating joists however using a powerful magnet I've found 3 magnetic lines running along the length of the room are roughly equal centres (room size roughly 4600mm x 2400mm) Joists/pipes, who knows!? I thought I'd drill into the ceiling to see if I could have a better look but I've stopped since I don't want to go too far before asking advice. Attached are photos of the different layers. No sign of any wood/void so far. Anyone know what I'm dealing with? Seems to be an initial layer of artex type stuff, followed buy plaster and horsehair, followed by a black/grey layer of graphite type stuff. Attached are pictures. Not sure of I should continue to try and find joists... Any help appreciated!
