Want to replace a ball cock kit that is no longer functioning properly with a fill valve but not sure what type to get. The toilet is old fashioned lever flush and not button flush. Can anyone help please?!

Either will go it there - either the ball type torbeck replacement or Fluidmaster type. Both need to be bottom inlet, get one with a brass bottom shank thread, plastic are a nightmare to DIY.

Is it mains pressure or from a header tank? Need the correct type.

It's mains pressure. Being a bit ignorant ive bought only the fluidmaster fill valve 400L but realise that i actually need the siphon too? In other words the whole cistern kit?

Only if the syphon is acting up (struggling to flush), if not then only the fill valve's needed.
