Hi all,

Part of the framework of my decking has rotted so I am looking to replace it. It's made up of 2"x4" framework. Looking around I think I need UC4 rated timber (close to or in contact with the ground) but I am finding it really hard to come by - most places just sell C24 "treated"/"tanelised" wood which I think ought to be covered with some sort of preservative in order to last more than a few years. The only places that sell UC4 stuff are either ludicrously expensive (around £10/m) or are out of stock.

The one place near me that stocks it (Champion) lists it as 44x94mm which is smaller than the 47x100 that all the other merchants list so I am a bit torn as it will make the heights all off as it's only a partial replacement.

Any thoughts? Is it overkill? I can't face having to preserve all the wood before I put it down, but with it coming in at £4-5/m for normal C24 pressure treated it is tempting...

Are you really going to notice a 6mm difference?
I wouldn't bother with timber in contact with the ground *at all*. But plastic "wood" is also really expensive.
