Hi all

Newbie here - feel free to laugh at this.

I need to reroute a coax cable through an outside wall into a one year old conservatory (I know - great forward planning here).

My intention is to cut a hole in the plasterboard a few inches along from and n line with an electric socket.

I used a pad saw to cut the hole and it cam out fairly cleanly. I was hoping to see, in the hole, block work to secure my back box to. Instead I see a rough, light grey material. It's not particularly hard and can be chipped away with a screwdriver. Is this likely to be a plaster dab? If so, shouldn't the plasterboard I removed have come away with some of that stuck to it (as I said it cam away cleanly).

Can i just continue chipping away at this (I'll get a chisel).

Picture attached.

Thanks all.

Al

You will find that "the grey stuff" is a thermalite block!!and it will be 4 to 6 inches thick, and there should be a gap behind that block (The cavity) and there should be another concrete block (Or brickwork) the other side of the cavity.. So don't start knocking that block about or you could bridge your cavity and cause a damp patch. And I would recommend you get an electrician to do your wiring.. ;)
