What's that noise?

I have an Audi A6 diesel. When i turn the keys in the ignition, there's a squirting noise under the car (in the mid region) - like some liquid is being squirted along a tube.... what on Earth could it be?

electric fuel pump by any chance?

maybe? i don't know a deal about cars.... i thought it was a bilge pump when i first bought it....
