hi. don't know how to post a pic, need a url ? what's that about?
will try to explain then maybe someone can post a pic ?
Been repairing a few washing machines, mechanical side mainly, just opened a late ish indesit, and where the cable comes in, the earth lead is coiled around what looks like metal ring about five times then off it goes to do it's job, can someone please tell me what the meaning of this?

Its just an RF filter, stops RF (Radio Frequencies) such as from strong mobile phone transmissions, etc, getting into electronics and spoil or corrupt electronics, or corrupt microprocessor based systems, the ring is made of material called Ferrite, there would also be other filters on PCB board as well. It shouldn't stop a machine from working even if you were to bypass it, but your machine can then become vulnerable, to electrical interference.

You welcome, but remember most domestic appliance made of Metal Chassis, must always be earthed. things like toasters, slow cookers, kettles, fridges, etc all must be earthed, some of these may be made of plastic materials, but do have metal chassis inside.
