Due to the fact that I currently have split alloys on my 2004 VW Polo, I am looking to replace them rather than refurbish them. The current ones are 16" and have 5 studs. What other parameters do I need to match when looking at replacements? I know there are terms like width and offset but I don't know what they mean and if they are important.

The width of rim determines the size of tyre that can be fitted , and the offset is the amount the wheel projects inwards and outwards if you catch my drift.
All are important, as is the central hub hole and the pitch circle diameter of the wheel studs.
Id always choose rims that were designed for your car, it's the safest and ensures the tyres don't catch on the bodywork or suspension parts.
John :)
