Just out of interest, many of you use search-engines on a daily base, not?
Now all these search-engines have 'sponsored' links (above, or like Google on the right of the real search results, also known as 'paperclip'
;) , sorry pay-per-click)

Do you ever click on one of those, do you even click first on those before you click on one of the real search results?

As has been said, it never seems to get the results. I am pestered on a monthly cycle place my company in a pay per click.

That's what I thought Diyisfun, I'm trying to convince a friend who is adament about 'joining' the 'paperclip' race that it really isn't worht the trouble or money ;)

i often find when searching for something like "diynot forum", the sponsored links come up with

"buy diynot forum here"
"find diynot forum for let in your area"
"search the worlds biggest shopping mall for diynot forum"

its stupid. why bother?

I know some one that has, i will not go into deatils but before you sign up read the small print, he now "cant stop paying", dont get me wrong its just that for him it really is worthwhile, so much so that if he stops paying his buiness may stop.

Yes, I do know it works for some sites, but I don't think for small (local) companies it would bring in that much more sales, i.e. not really a proper ROI. Better to spend time and effort on getting your site listed on page 1 to 3 in the normal search results.
