My outside lights are connected together by a cable laid round the edge of my flat roof. I want to move the cable to the top of the wall to make painting the roof easier. In parallel with the mains cable I want to run low voltage cables to some PIRs for the lighting controller.

I then want to cover both sets of cables with some aluminium Top Hat section. Does this turn it into a conduit i.e. both cables must have the same insulation rating? If this is the case, can I just run one of the sets in 16x16mm trunking under the aluminium section.

I know the trunking isn't waterproof, but that's not what I'm trying to achieve, it purely there for mechanical seperation.

Providing the cable for the ELV devices has insulation capable of carrying the voltage in the LV cables, then no segragation is required.

Basically, run the PIRs in mains cable and you'll be fine.
