I 've just had a wall, with a mixture of new blockwork (moved kitchen door) and old tyrolean, smooth rendered with a sand/cement mix. It looks great and is much better than the old tyrolean finish but the guy who did it said I should wait several months before painting.

How long should I wait before painting?

Is it worth using some Johnsons Water Seal and if so, how? Before painting or after?

Thanks :)

  several @ the beginning of June =late Sept. ;) or leave to next summer ....no need for waterproofer, just smooth masonry paint

LOL @ Breezer :)

OK, so the end of summer it is then :)

I just wondered why it is I have to wait? What's going on with the render after it's dried (which should only take a few days surely)?
