When were 45amp MCB's phased out?

I ask because the vast majority of showers run at 45amps, yet mostmanufacturer's have stopped making 45amp MCB's, and replaced them with 40 or 50 amp MCB's - Why was this done?

I really can't be *rsed to look for any more - I'm pretty sure that Siemens make one, but I'm not at home right now, so I can't check their catalogue, and their website is a thicket of obfuscation impenetrable to any but the most dedicated and able.

I did learn one thing there, though - they make Type E MCBs....

Yeah, but it's the Type XXX you have to watch out for.... ;)

For that matter, why does there have to be such a multitude of different designs? There should be a British Standard MCB that fits all consumer units. I think the manufacturers are dropping the less common sizes on their older ranges of MCBs.
