This tragic tale reminded me of the hilarious experience of my own flying instructor & current pilot of choice from many years ago.
He went off to Florida to build up his hours ('cos it cheap) & was flying solo over the swamps when he hit a mozzie swarm, "it really did cloud the view" he tells, then he realised the side windows of his ancient Cessna were slid to the open position for ventilation in the extreme Florida heat. He tentatively glanced backwards to see his very own thick cloud of mozzies swarming in the faux back seat area. Then he did something incredibly stupid, something that you might think needs hindsight to fully realise, yet something that you might think someone setting out on a pro pilots career should have realised was a bad idea from the start.
He shut the window.
Can you imagine what happened next?
