Where can I buy a 1.2m wide sliding door from?

Hi,

I've got a shallow bathroom space and I've opened up the door frame to 1.1m so that I can fit a sliding door. The intention is that most of the time the door will be open and so the bathroom will feel bigger and as it's a 1 bed flat privacy shouldn't be an issue most of the time.

I'm having trouble finding a sliding door to fit. I'm looking at using the Coburn Panther door gear:-

but no real luck in finding a door manufacturer that sells doors which are 1.2m wide (approx 1.9m high). I have found fire door blanks which are that size but I guess the weight will be prohibitive. I've even started looking at buying half a garage door!!

Anyone know anywhere that sells these doors for a reasonable price? Budget is less than about £300.

Yes would have said FD blanks was likely your only option other than bespoke with such an odd size. The door gear you're favouring says it will cope with up to 90kg, and if you used a fire door blank your door would weigh about 60kg.

Have you thought about looking around a reclamation yard? You can normally find doors all shapes and sizes from older houses. Some old front doors are quite large. I recently bought a front door just over 1m wide for £15.

I don't know how set up you are for woodwork. I would be tempted to make a door/screen from plywood and paint it. With some clever use of mouldings, trim and skirting board to add profiles, it wouldn't be too hard to make something that is the shape you need and looked good.

What profile are you looking for??

option you have is to buy 2 doors of 700mm wide, trim the middle style back by about 50mm, and glue them together (so you are at 1200mm, so the middle style looks like the outer styles. sand them down and paint them

if possible match them to you'r other doods in you're house

Thanks for all the replies. I had a great conversation with the garage door guy who informed me the price would start at £3k! So that's out.

I don't have a lot of time to look in a reclamation yard due to lack of time but it sounds like an interesting idea for future projects.

Glass is an interesting option but think I'll stick to the fire door blank and put a mirror onto the door itself.
