I want to replace my ancient bathroom suite. Looking at B&Q's reviews convinces me to look elsewhere.

Can someone recommend good quality manufacturers or retailers with good prices (I'm a starving orphan)? Thank you in advance.

Grant.

It depends if you want an acrylic bath or steel.
That makes the difference.

we did this a last year, and went to all the sheds, and online, ended up in a local - portsmouth bathroom showroom and got some great stuff and great prices. you may want to look locally for any specialist stores.
Refitted bathroom & ensuite
Also used an online store recently for a cloakroom refurb last few months during lockdown etc
UKbathrooms, excellent service and pricing ukbathrooms.com
we just got the toilet, cistern, basin taps etc
But also used an online plumbing supplies http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/

Settle on a local bathroom fitter ( some fitters do bathrooms and kitchen fitting) & have you & them work out the design and fixtures etc. Talk things through, then agree on a price and payment method and start date.
Dont use sheds or national advertised companies - stay local.

eta, . I'll certainly give them a look.

As you and tel765 suggest, the now mostly overlooked local businesses should be considered. They realize they are competing against the likes of B&Q and need to offer 'value added'. Maybe I'll surprise myself.

Johnny 2007, not something else I need to consider? I'd better look into it.

Thank you, gentleman.

last year maybe even dec 2018 , they local shop turned out to be much cheaper offering quite a discount, and compared with the bathstore and other major places much easier to deal with. I nationwide store came to measure-up , had the door in the wrong place on the plan !!!!! and I had to check every item within 7 days of delivery. otherwise could not return.
The local store actually checked all the cabinets & white goods before delivering and infact sent 2 items back

We replaced our bathroom, depends what you want and what your budget is. We wanted a Villeroy and Boch quaryl bath but this was too expensive here some stupid £1000 for a bath, we ended up ordering it from Germany including the deliver came to £350.

If you want a new shower I would recommend you look at Hansgrohe or Grohe, the mechanism is easy to install you install a wall box that then you can have whatever shower attached to it, if you ever want to replace anything it is simply done from the box. They are widely used, and would recommend them over a simple shower.

When it comes to where to purchase from, take a look at idealo.de and use product codes to compare pricing. When you think you have found a store that sells it reasonable to what you want to pay have a look if they ship to the UK, most German/Austrian and French retailers will ship.

The ones we used were -

https://www.megabad.com/
https://www.xtwostore.co.uk/
https://www.heizman24.de/
https://www.skybad.de/
https://sanundo.de/

Should give you something to look at....or anyone else.

I'll give you one example -

Select Rimless Toilet, Ceramic Plus and slim seat - when I just did it came out at £668.70 Incl VAT

Yet direct from Germany is £311 for the same thing.

Thank you for all replies, especially spacey3 - the much considered content is greatly appreciated. I do use French and Italian websites but not for building matters.

For tools not known beyond its borders, the US is good for high quality, price and originality; as are Germany and Italy but here the prices can be steep.

Ordering from abroad can be fine for easy to return or not easily damaged products but imagine geting a bath tub or larger items with a fault:eek:

If the goods are damaged when you receive them then simply rules apply and most German retailers I have ever had dealings with accept the return and provide you with the shipping label to return the goods for replacement, as happened to me.

It is a legal requirement as a consumer that they do so unless you are ordering as a business.

It would be prudent to read the rules first from the retailer! (I doubt very much if B&Q place those terms and conditions anywhere!)

6. Statutory warranty rights
In case of faults in the delivered goods the consumer is entitled to the full statutory warranty rights in accordance with the regulations of the Civil Code.
