I am getting quotes for supply and instal of a roof lantern for my Orangary style extension. I am not a builder and have no real idea of what questions I should be asking when deciding who to buy from.

So far I have tried Thames Valley Windows and Reflex Glass (who were over 30% cheeper apparently the same). I visited TVW who seemed like a reputable company with quality products. Not sure about reflex.

I'm not looking for the cheepest option, but have no way to tell if I'm paying for a quality product or the salesman's markup.

Does anyone have any advice or recomendation of product/company?

Required Spec
5800mm x 2100mm
Aluminium
2 electric roof vests
Interior white/Exterior dark grey

Thanks in advance

When you say roof lantern do you mean a conservatory edwardian style roof going onto a flat roof extension? I will price it tomorrow and email it to you

Yes that's it, I'm looking for an aulimium framed conservatory style lantern with no cresting or final like you can see here http://www.reflexglass.co.uk/lanterns.php?gclid=CNyf65Cjj7ICFaXJtAodVXsAvw

But my problem is not getting quotes - I've got several. What I am trying to figure out is whether or not I am getting a better value product by paying more.

Reflex Glass seem good value on the face of it, but I read a couple of dodgy reviews about them online.

I was hoping somebody who has had one for a while could recomend a company and give an idea on what a reasonable price would be for a decent quality product.

Thanks in advance...

Most companies will quote you for standard glazing bars and the traditional ridge and finials. The traditional ridge design and crests etc tends to hide the way it all fits, so is cheaper. If you want a clean ridge, of more contemporary design then you will have to pay and use a more specialist supplier/fitter - and will pay accordingly

What you need to look for is a company that makes and fits, rather than one with buys in the lantern and marks up the price

It looks like that reflex glass company are using the products from www.glazing-vision.co.uk

Thanks for this - makes sense to cut out the middle man. It was actually an aluminium framed roof I was after. The link just seems to be for frameless roofs which they can't do in the size I need.

As you say what I really want is a manufacturor that will come and fit it too and give me a warrenty on the whole installation.

Keen eye ;)

I have always wondered though why the aztec system doesn't have gaskets on the rafters

oh aye :D i think its a good system for these style roof because you can use without gutters, and the rb is powder coated, the rb is a box section, plus the polyends are good with glass roofs, and now we do a triple glazed roof taking 34mm units

The 2 piece rafter caps are a neat idea along with the sheet end closer doubling up as an anti slip system

the two piece beads arent really used by us, apart from wallbars, but the polyend is the best thing ever for long term slippage
