I am looking to strengthen the ceiling joists in my loft space. Each joists is 6x2 and sits a wooden wall plate. I'm looking to secure an extra length of timber above the wall plate (I think called a ledger) and then fix joists hangers under the joists and into the newly installed timber which I need to fix to the brick
My question is what is the best method of fixing this timber to the gable end brick wall? I only plan to use the loft space for light storage.
I've had anchor bolts suggested where they expand when tightened however my bricks have 9 holes in each and they are old soft bricks which I'm worried will crack. The other option I've seen is using rods fixed in place with a resin and then the timber bolted onto these rods.
A chap called frank has already suggested this on the building forum but I wanted to get some more expert advice on this forum too.
