Hello everyone
just looking for abit of advice on cordless sds drills

the two im looking at are this one DeWalt DW005K2C
from screwfix that’s on offer for £250 should be £350
its 24V but the battries are only 2.0Ah

or this Dewalt DW213KA
from toolstation on offer at £265 from £320
I think this is a newer model, comes with 2.6Ah batts but only 18V

And now im stuck
Is a higher voltage is better than a higher Ah?
Cant decide which one to go for, so thought id ask in here
Or if anyone knows of any better ones for around same price please let me know

Thanks

think off the voltage as the engine greater the voltage greater the power

and the ah [amp hours] is the fuel tank

so twice the volts = twice the power
and twice the ah = twice the fuel tank

another point to note is theres probably 4 times the amount of tools to fit the 18v dewalt batteries as opposed to the 24v

Thanks for the replies guys

How much difference would I see in torque between these two and if the 18Vone is a newer model?? Would that be the best buy?

Anymore good/bad point’s people can think of?
Any more advice will be much appreciated

Also is there anything else in this price range?

I’m still struggling to pick between these two someone let me know which to pick (then I can blame you when its not right) ;)

Thanks

To answer that you'll need to ask each manufacturer and compare figures.

ok winman

what are your planned uses for the drill !!!
will it be hammered !!!! sorry ;)
or just for diy/home improvement!!!

would your purposes be better met by a combination of 2 tools !!!

answer these questions and we will have a go at helping :D :D ;)

also look at makitas 18v , which is quite light and has lithium batteries
or the bosch 36v which has loads of power plus a 3 year warrenty

It will be trade use it gets, just drilling 6/8/10mm 80 to 120mm deep in brick and concrete and sometimes 10-mm ish holes through walls
It will get some hammer but not everyday

Thanks for your help so far guys

Thanks for your research big-all

After thinking about it more I think it would get more hammer than I said, as I can see me using my corded SDS less, which would mean it could (and probably would) get used for some small core drills and some chiselling so maybe the extra torque would help

Would the 24V take more hammer?, just looks a bigger drill to take more hammer??

Also I don’t think id be buying other naked dewalt tools

You think the 18V model would have the power for the big jobs?

And seaangler thanks for the suggestions but im working on a budget and both of those are above it (unless you know something I don’t)

Thanks again

in general the bigger the voltage the greater the progress

if the smaller drill has the same or simmilar capacity quoted it is usualy acheived by gear reduction

so in general the greater the voltage the greater the performance and the quicker it does it

i wouldnt worry which one you choose unless you drilling holes up to the capacity of the drill on a regular basis if you have a mains in the van you will soon know when you need it :D ;)

not forgetting ohm's law, the impedance of the motor has a large effect on the ability to draw current, [e.g. -try pitting the power of a 24v drill against a 12v starter motor from a car, no contest].
