I have an unlimited supply of pallets so fancy knocking up some pallet based stuff for my house so a Mitre Saw would be really handy but which one? I don't need anything too expensive but on the other hand I like to buy quality kit so I guess around the £200 mark would be ideal for me. I'm also about to build a workbench and some shelving in my garage mainly from 2x4" so I also need the saw to be able to handle that, I'm an engineer also like accuracy!

I'm shooting in the dark here but I've narrowed it down to something like these two:

The Makita is actually £300 which I don't really want to spend so is it worth the extra £100 over the Metabo?

Obviously I'm completely open to other similar suggestions?

heeelllooo and welcome RipGroove99 :D :D :D

a decent wood burner may be more useful
pallets are usually made from carp wood and ring shank nails meaning they don't come apart very well

i would try dismantling several pallets before spending any money

I also need the saw for kitting out my garage with benches and shelving anyway.

The op went for the Metabo and seems happy with it.

Thanks, looking at the specs of that Metabo then (http://www.ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Metabo%20Kgs254M%204007430204912%20240V%201800W%20Sliding%20Mitre%20Saw%20With%20254Mm%20Blade%20googlelink?gclid=CO7gn9XVzcICFWjItAoda1AAHg), am I right in thinking it should be able to deal with cutting 2x4" at 45° without flipping the workpiece over? I think the very most i'll be working with for DIY is 2x4" (probably planed).

That was never worth £250! It's a Chinesium special bought in for a promotion. Shame on Rutlands.

Just ordered the Metabo KGS254M from www.ffx.co.uk

Have read a ton of reviews, most good but some state the preset mitre locks are sloppy, hopefully they are not too bad and if they are maybe I can machine up some better ones (my day job is machinist), but fingers crossed it'll be OK.

Thanks for the info :)
