What is the correct mix of mortar to use when pointing ridge tiles, also should any additives be used, the mortar that has been used in the past is dropping out and seems very soft and crumbly

You can use a 3:1 or 4:1 with two cap fulls of plasticiser in a full mixers worth of compo.
