I need to do some work on my chimney and I would be grateful for some advice on what type of scaffolding I need. The house is an end terrace with the chimney at the 'unattached end'. The ground below the chimney is sloping. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated
What sort of height would you be working at? How deep is the slope?
I (with others) use tower scaffolding for work on a church building. I know that the tower scaffold can be 8 metres high free standing outdoors (ie. not tied to the building) providing that the scaffolding has the proper approved extended bracing at the base. Tower scaffolding has adjustable feet, but remember all the safety restrictions! Personally I would tie the scaffold to the building as well as having the bracing. You can't be too safe. Hope that this helps.
Get a scaffolding hire company to errect it as well. I think you'll have a job to get one that will supply for self errect as there is an art in knowing what to put where in the line of bracers, pudlocks and stabilizing supports/strutts. I doubt they hire towers to reach high enough for a stack.
