Whirlpool Dishwasher re-set

Can anyone please advise me on how to re-set my dishwasher which has 'finished'its cycle without pumping out. In the past I have followed advice about holdding down a couple of the control buttons, but which ones and in what sequence?

Press and hold the start button.
However, if it didn't pump out the water at the end it should be flashing the start light. The number of flashes between pauses is the error code.
